We are working with people from all over the world with different backgrounds and experiences. They react differently to different styles of communication. Whether you are a new manager, just recently promoted, or a senior executive, this course will help you improve your communication skills and thus it will be easier to get what you want and need from your staff.

HOW you communicate both verbally and non-verbally matters a great deal in how people react to your instructions.

Assertiveness is the behavior that shows confidence and self-assurance without being aggressive. In this course you will see many examples of passive (non-assertive), aggressive (overly assertive – into bullying), and proper assertive behavior. We also deal with common workplace problems and show how assertiveness increases your chances of successful decisions, negotiations and even conflict resolution.

This course is designed to help you find your style of being assertive – without being aggressive and bullying.  You get more with “honey” than you do with “vinegar”, and so on.

Learning Objectives
  • Explore styles of communication, cultural differences, body language and differences in style
  • Recognize the importance of being congruent in your own presentation
  • Discover techniques for effectively responding to those who do not comply with your requests
  • Identify methods of assertive communication that increases your chances for a win/win negotiation and why that is of value.

This course provided a good overview of defining assertiveness behaviors and techniques for interacting with others in the workplace. The instructor effectively presented key concepts and provided good supporting materials. It's been some time since I've reviewed DISC, so this portion of the course served as a good refresher!
