Certificate Highlights
This Certificate program will provide you with a deep dive and a practitioner’s perspective into the new Global Internal Audit Standards that are set to be effective in 2025. The certificate not only provides detailed information surrounding the various Domains but a perspective regarding how practitioners may work with and implement the Standards. We also compare and contrast the 2024 Standards with the 2017 International Professional Practice Framework.
The new Global Internal Audit Standards were released on January 9, 2024, and will become effective January 9, 2025. The previous version, the International Standards for the Professional Practice of Internal Auditing, released in 2017, remains approved for use during a one-year transition period. The Global Internal Audit Standards guide the worldwide professional practice of internal audit. They serve as a basis for evaluating and elevating the quality of the internal audit function.
The 2017 Standards are principle-focused and provide a framework for performing and promoting internal auditing. The Standards are mandatory requirements consisting of:
- Statements of basic requirements for the professional practice of internal auditing and for evaluating the effectiveness of its performance. The requirements are internationally applicable at organizational and individual levels.
- Attribute Standards- Attribute Standards address the attributes of organizations and individuals performing internal auditing. Performance Standards describe the nature of internal auditing and provide quality criteria against which the performance of these services can be measured.
- Performance Standards - Performance Standards describe the nature of internal audit activities and provide criteria against which the performance of these services can be evaluated.
- Interpretations, which clarify terms or concepts within the statements.
- Glossary terms.
The 2017 Standards also included a formal definition of internal audit, core principles and a separate code of conduct.
The Global Standards use 15 guiding principles with five separate Domains that enable effective internal audit implementation and examples of evidence of conformance.
The Global Standards are organized into five domains.
- Domain I: Purpose of Internal Auditing
- Doman II: Ethics and Professionalism
- Domain III: Governing the Internal Audit Function
- Domain IV: Managing the Internal Audit Function
- Domain V: Performing Internal Audit Service
The 2024 Standards do not include a separate code of conduct or a separate definition of internal audit. They are embedded within the meaning of the various domains.
This certificate program provides you with a true Practitioners view of the new Standards.
